We can see advertising everywhere around us, in the streets, television, magazine and radio. Currently most companies are finding different ways to sell their products. Advertising expert try to appeal to young peoples needs and feeling making their product attractive and desirable. As a result this affects young people to drink alcohol and eat junk food. This essay will explain that advertising increases young peoples obesity and encourages them to drink alcohol. Advertising affect young peoples obesity in different ways. The first way is television advertising increases young people obesity. For example, television is a way to talk directly to children by showing unhealthy advertising. Another example, is when young people are affected by the advertising found in movies such as, Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, which displays the advertising of Coca-Cola (Ruskin 2003). Also the movie E.T. when it shows E.T. eating Reeses Pieces (Ruskin 2003). Consequently these products have a great impact on youth to go and buy the produ cts (Ruskin 2003). In short, television advertising and hidden advertising effect young people obesity by consuming more calories. Advertising encourages young people to drink alcohol in several enjoyable ways. First of all, major films are sponsored by companies which promote alcohol.
